Networks of characteristic courts, streets and parks provide a high quality infrastructure of urban spaces delivering ‘services’ to the city at many scales. Coupled with the awareness of local distinctiveness derived from local heritage as well as looking to the future there is a palette of ideas, which can promote more sustainable living with the health benefits of green environments.

We believe that this holistic approach to urban space is effectively the ‘glue’ that binds the city. It creates connection, destination, attraction, landscape, activity, diversity, health and transformation in order to establish continuity, meaning, and a sense of history. Connectivity will maximize the interaction between people. This will help generate the necessary intensity that will help maintain social and economic sustainability.

The Urban Design for Bircham Park is based upon 4 principles

1. Firstly introducing an urban structure that is founded on landscape structure of a network of courts, streets and parks with a dynamic skyline to facilitate the development strategy and urban design guidelines.
2. Secondly to optimize the unique topography of the site to generate a network differentiated spaces and landscapes, resolve car parking more easily and deliver a mixture of living working and recreation.
3. Thirdly to create 4 different environments within the district centre
4. Fourthly to establish a clear urban framework that is robust enough to adapt to change, and allow future densification without losing its identity. This will create opportunity for future provision and harness, and cultivate new synergies.
